唐望曾對他的學生Carlos說，
他之所以對Carlos的朋友冷漠，
是因為他不是他要的人。
他認為他們兩個的生命無法有真正的交集，
所以選擇冷默以待，
但同時在心中給予最深的祝福。
Carlos的朋友對唐望氣的半死，
認為這印地安老人不識相，
存心讓他熱臉貼冷屁股。
他花了大把的時間找到老人，想像他請教，
得到的不過是陣深沉的注視。
然而，最後是這個朋友將Carlos帶到唐望面前，
為唐望解決了一個極大的困難。

生活中常有這樣的狀況--
明知彼此的互動可能實在不多，
但卻無法停止地做出一些關心。
關心則亂，面對依循著不同法則的人，
這樣的關心常常沒帶來改為，
反而是讓彼此的關係變得無法單純化，
充滿了太多的情緒、不良記錄。
剛剛腦海裡冒出這樣的想法：
也許唐望的做法，
選擇對不對的人保持沉默並予祝福，
是種可以接受的處理方式。
沉默並不是冷默，
雖然被如此對待的人勢必如此解釋；
沉默只是因為，
願彼此的生命能繼續自由開展，
不以一般的人際結構牽連。
會相遇的，必是有所牽連，
但牽連有許多的形式，
人際結構牽連只是其中一種。
Carlos的朋友未能與唐望建立人際牽連，
但暗中進行的命運卻使他成為使者，
將Carlos帶到唐望面前。
一生就只此長度，精力也不過這些，
年輕讓人以為時間、精力是無限的，
使我們輕易地把它們花費在建立各式各樣的結構中。
但其實並不是。
我們所擁有的，都是有限度的。
讓一切回歸到命運。

"I'm not interested in classifications," he went on. "You have been classifying everything all your life. Now you are going to be forced to stay away from classifications."
